Champions League betting – Matchday 6 – part 2
Wednesday, December 10th, 2008Tonight is the final round of Champions League matches before the last sixteen knockout stages in the new year.
Manchester United should see off Danish champions Aalborg BK, who are as big as 14/1 to win the game at Old Trafford. You can get a very short 2/9 on United at totesport to win and top Group E, but at that price they could be just one for your ‘accas’. The draw is 9/2.
The other game sees Celtic (13/10) host the other qualifier from Group E Villareal at Celtic Park. It’s been an awful campaign from the Scots and even a first win of the competition here won’t secure them third spot and a place in the UEFA Cup. Villareal (21/10) are already through to the knockout stages and with a chilly night up in Glasgow they can be opposed, the draw is 23/10 with totesport.
Arsenal have also secured qualification to the knockout stages with a game to play and travel to Group G’s other qualifier Porto. Arsenal (2/1) have not been at their fluid best of late despite a good second half performance against Chelsea they’ve struggled to wins against Wigan at the weekend and Kiev in this competition. The Gunners also rest a few of the first ‘teamers’ for this one so the draw at 11/5 or a home win (13/10) make more appeal in the betting.
The other game in Group G sees Dynamo Kiev host winless Fenerbahce (5/2) in the Ukraine. The 10/11 available at totesport about the home team looks the bet of the night here. The draw is 9/4.
Group F is another where two teams have already qualified meet in a dead rubber. Bayern Munich (17/10) travel to Lyon (13/10) level on points with their hosts but an inferior goal difference. Anything other than a win in France tonight and they’ll be amongst the second seeds in the last sixteen draw. The draw incidentally is 11/5.
Fiorentina (6/4) travel to Romania to face Steaua Bucharest (6/4) in the group’s other fixture. A draw will secure the Italian’s safe passage through to the UEFA Cup and is available to bet on at 11/5 with totesport.
Finally, Group H is another where all outcomes are already decided, so be careful when betting on these matches as it’s best to check the lineups first. Group winners Juventus (1/4) can round off a good return to the Champions League with victory at home versus BATE Borisov (9/1), whilst Real Madrid (evens) can get off to a winning start under Juande Ramos at home to Zenit St Petersburg (9/4). The draws are 18/5 and 9/4 respectively.
