Fletcher plays down Ronaldo loss
Tuesday, November 24th, 2009
Darren Fletcher feels Manchester United’s players are more than capable of covering for the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo and continue to bring silverware ( 4/6 To Win Any Of The 4 Major Trophies Man United Multiple Trophies) to Old Trafford this season.
The Red Devils were rocked in the summer when Real Madrid snapped up the Portuguese superstar in a record-breaking transfer deal, with pundits predicting a season of struggle for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.
However Fletcher feels United have already adapted well to Ronaldo’s loss as they sit second in the Premier League and prepare to face Besiktas (United 1/3, Besiktas 7/1, the draw 16/5 Midweek Euro Coupon) in the Champions League on Wednesday knowing they are already assured of a place in the knockout phase (United 13/2 Champions League Outright Winner).
He said: “Any team in the world would miss Cristiano. He’s a fantastic player and a great goalscorer.
“He adapted so much when he was here. He went from being a silky winger to being a goalscoring winger and the best player in the world.
“Hopefully we can become a more-rounded team and other players will raise their game to cover the gap left by his absence.
“We need more goals from midfield and more goals from all the players. That will make us a stronger team, because we won’t be as reliant on one player.”
