Premier League Weekend Preview – 6th Dec 08
Thursday, December 4th, 2008Another week flies by and there’s a full fixture list in the Premier League for you to bet on this weekend with totesport.
The early kick-off on Saturday sees Fulham host Man City at Craven Cottage. The home side are unbeaten in four Premier League matches including two excellent away draws to Liverpool and Aston Villa. They also have an good home record winning their last three matches and the 7/5 about their chances here against a City side (8/5) that have struggled on the road looks a good price. The draw is 11/5.
After last weeks away win at Chelsea, Arsenal look a good thing to get back-to-back wins in the Premier League on Saturday as they host Wigan (8/1) at the Emirates. The 2/7 about the home team with totesport says it all and despite Wigan’s no defeat in the last five they will face an uphill battle here. The draw is 7/2.
A Fernando Torres- less Liverpool make the short trip to Ewood Park to face a rudderless Blackburn Rovers. This is exactly the type of fixture where you’d back against the Reds in the past, but with Blackburn (7/2) in free-fall it’s difficult to look past Liverpool this time. Despite two goalless draws at Anfield in the past fortnight, Liverpool beat Bolton in their last away fixture and are backable at 4/6 here. The draw is 12/5.
Staying in the north-west, Chelsea (8/15)look to bounce back to winning ways after a stuttering fortnight as they face in-form Bolton (9/2). The 5/2 about the draw might be worth taking here with totesport as Chelsea are looking vulnerable at present.
There’s a north-east derby of sorts at the KC Stadium on Saturday as Hull host Middlesbrough. Hull have drawn their last three matches int he Premier League although they’ve not won in six. Boro, who’ve faltered at home this season actually have a decent away record, unbeaten in their last four on the road. I’d certainly oppose Hull at 13/10 and Boro or the draw look decent options at 17/10 and 11/5 respectively with totesport.
The last of Saturday’s 3pm kick offs see Newcastle host Stoke (10/3) at St James’s Park. The ship has been well and truly steadied for the ‘Toon’ by Joe Kinnear but results haven’t set the league alight in the process. They’ve drawn their last three but are unbeaten in four at home, whilst Stoke’s away record is pretty woeful, despite Rory Delap’s thunderous throw-ins. The home team are a 8/11 shot here and that could be the bet of the weekend. The draw is 9/4.
The early evening kick-off on Saturday looks a one-sided affair as Manchester United (1/6) host manager-less Roy Keane at Old Trafford. Former United hero jumped ship on Thursday and won’t be suffering the indignity of a heavy defeat come Saturday. That’s for the training staff and players he leaves behind to endure as the 12/1 shots surely face a comfortable defeat. An unlikely draw is 9/2 with totesport.
Sunday sees two Premier League fixtures in the shape of West Brom (6/4) versus Pompey and Everton (6/4) versus Villa. Both Portsmouth and Aston Villa have UEFA Cup matches to contend with at time of writing, the former an away trip to Germany. Villa shouldn’t break too much sweat at Home to MSK Zilina and can be backed at 6/4 to win at a resurgent Everton. Pompey play bottom of the table West Brom and the 6/4 about their chances, despite a UEFA Cup hangover looks pretty tasty.
On Monday, West Ham face Spurs at the Boleyn Ground. West Ham haven’t won at home in four but have had encouraging signs on the road with a win versus Boro and a draw away at Liverpool on their last two outings. The 6/4 about their chances against an indifferent Spurs (also a 6/4 shot) looks a decent price. Be warned though, West Ham have a poor record against Spurs and with Harry Redknapp back on the scene nothing would surprise me! The draw is 11/5 with totesport.
Prices correct at the time of writing but look out for totesport’s enhanced Premier League coupon available from Friday.
