Weekly Premier League Betting Review
Wednesday, March 4th, 2009Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal all obliged with wins last night in the Premier League, cranking up the pressure on Manchester United, Aston Villa and Everton to follow suit at the top of the table tonight.
Man City are hoping that their home form can keep them in mid-table against a Villa side with seven straight away wins to their name. City have won their last four at home so something has to break tonight. Villa are now six points behind Liverpool in third and without a win in three, the strain might just be beginning to show. You can back the home team at 11/8, with Villa and the draw 17/10 and 9/4 respectively with totesport.
Fresh from their Penalty shootout win over Spurs in the Carling Cup on Sunday, Man Utd travel north to face a Newcastle side without a win in four matches at St James’s Park. United are sure to field a much changed side for this fixture, one they haven’t lost since September 2001. United go into this unbeaten in fifteen, winning their last ten on the spin. This makes them firm 4/9 favourites with totesport, against 13/2 the home side and 11/4 the draw. Interestingly these two teams have averaged 3.48 goals a game in all competitions dating back to the 97/98 season so overs could be a good bet.
Stoke play Bolton at the Britannia fresh from their heroics in the final minutes at Villa Park on Sunday. The Club from the Potteries are unbeaten in three at home, albeit only having one win in thirteen in the league. Bolton have no wins in five away matches, four of which were away from home. Bolton won the return fixture 3-1 on match-day one but the draw looks the bet here at 23/10 with totesport. If you want to back either team, Stoker are 7/5 and Bolton 15/8.
Wigan and West ham do battle at the JJB tonight in what should be a close contest. 8th and 7th respectively they have an identical record in the Premier league when up against each other with three wins each apiece and one draw. Interestingly only one of those wins a piece has gone to the one team, so it might be worth having a close look at West Ham tonight. Wigan have no win in seven, albeit four draws but are actually unbeaten in eight at the JJB. West Ham have no wins away from home in the last three attempts. West Ham are a 12/5 chance here, with Wigan 23/20 and the draw 9/4, all with totesport.
Blackburn play Everton live on Sky Sports tonight and you can bet live in-running throughout with totesport. Blackburn only have three home wins to their name this season and a re still deep in a relegation battle. Everton have no win in their last three away matches and have drawn this fixture in three of the last four meetings, so perhaps that is the bet at 9/4 with totesport. Blackburn are a 13/8 shot whilst so are Everton.
Fulham have only lost one game at Craven Cottage all season and they welcome Hull City tonight, who are without a win in eleven matches. The away side have not won on the road since 25th October at West Brom and this looks a big ask tonight. The 8/11 about Fulham with totesport is a great price and looks the bet of the night. You can back the draw or Hull at 23/10 and 9/2 respectively.
Finally, Spurs host Boro at White Hart lane. Only three days after their grueling Carling Cup final, Spurs have fresh injury worries ahead of this match. They are unbeaten in five at home but will need a performance to see of a Boro side that have ended a fourteen game winless run with a home win over Liverpool at the weekend. Spurs are unbeaten in six at home against Boro and if they can use the penalty defeat at the weekend positively they should have enough quality here. You can back Spurs at 8/11 with totesport. Boro are a 4/1 shot and the draw is available at 5/2.
Totesport will be betting live in-running on tonight’s Blackburn versus Everton match.
