Will Ronaldo stay or go?
Saturday, May 17th, 2008With the Premier League season done and dusted totesport have wasted no time in publishing prices for the 2008/9 campaign.
Champions Manchester United are handed the favourites´ tag with a 21/20 quote, but with recent speculation that Cristiano Ronaldo could be off to Spain it may well pay to monitor the situation closely.
It would be unfair and incorrect to label United a one man side but the fact remains that without Ronaldo they would surely have scored a lot less goals this season.
The Portuguese star says he will make a decision on his future after the Champions League final, but these recent comments will worry United backers and supporters alike: “I’ve said a million times I’d like to play in Spain but dreaming is one thing, reality is another. I don’t know.”
Could mighty Real Madrid come calling this summer? If that´s the case then Chelsea´s totesport odds of 9/4 would represent tremendous value.
Whether he wins the Champions League or not, Blues´ boss Avram Grant has done a tremendous job of steadying the Chelsea ship after the traumatic departure of Jose Mourinho.
It seems certain that owner Roman Abramovich will give Grant another season at the helm, which will help add stability and the recent signing of pacy Porto right back Jose Bosingwa for 16.2 million GBP cannot harm their chances.
Of course some would argue that the likelihood of a Ronaldo-less United brings 5/1 Arsenal and 7/1 Liverpool into the equation, but they look way behind Chelsea in terms of squad strength. Arsenal appear to be going backwards with the departure of Matthew Flamini and Alexander Hleb could be off too. Liverpool´s farcical ownership power struggles can only undermine Rafael Benitez´s side on the pitch.
