Australian Open Golf Betting Preview
Wednesday, December 10th, 2008After last week’s Australian PGA Championship, winner Greg Ogilvy heads the market at 13/2 to follow up his win in the Australian Open.
Ogilvy’s been in great form over the past few months and will take the beating here, but we’ve highlighted a few of the other runners to look out for from a golf betting perspective.
Two of the stalwarts of Australian golf, Robert Allenby and Stewart Appleby are 10/1 and 14/1 respectively and although they warrant respect, the prices look a bit skinny and based on reputation rather than form. Allenby blew a chance of victory in last week’s PGA and Appleby has failed to shine in his home events in recent years.
Other Aussies Marcus Fraser, Richard Green and Brendan Jones offer some value at 33/1, 28/1 and 40/1 respectively. Fraser finished second last week in the Australian PGA Championship and will have claims to finish in the places again here, whilst the latter two performed well at Mission Hills in the World Cup finishing third after a final round slump a fortnight ago.
If that hasn’t whetted your appetite for a good bet on this weeks golf, Darren Clarke has chances at 33/1 with totesport and John Daly is probably worth a small stakes each-way punt at 200/1.
