Weekly Golf Betting Preview – Race to Dubai
Wednesday, April 15th, 2009It’s business as usual for the field in this weeks Race to Dubai tournament as none of the 156 played in last weeks Masters in Augusta. They have however had to up sticks from Europe to make the trip to the latest installment on tour, the Volvo China Open.
Thongchai Jaidee heads the betting with totesport at a skinny looking 10/1. The thirty-nine year old player from Thailand has already won the Indonesian Open this year but hasn’t been seen on tour since and didn’t play in this event last year. The 10/1 doesn’t look the value bet to me so we’ve selected some others for you.
There are a couple of Tour winners both priced at 14/1 this week with recent form to back up their claims. Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano comes into this tournament off the back of a second place finish in the Portuguese Open last time out and a top fifteen finish in Seville the week before. Johan Edfors on the other hand hasn’t played in the last six weeks but did win the Black Mountain masters in Thailand at the beginning of March last time he was in this part of the world. Both have a good shout at those prices.
Further down the betting, Damian McGrane cannot be ignored. The Irishman was a runaway winner of this tournament last year in horrendous final day conditions, romping home by nine shots. If we can expect the same kind of conditions at some point this week you’d want McGrane on your side and at 22/1 he’s worth an each-way bet.
A couple of other players to look out for are Chapchai Nirat and Miles Tunnicliff. Nirat, another Thai, was the runaway winner of the recent SAIL Open on the Asian Tour in March and the course should suit his big hitting style. Tunnicliff on the other hand has been solid if not spectacular. The Englishman does have a recent second place finish in the Malaysian Open back in February and is one of very few players who come here with both course form (20th last year) and solid performances in the last two tournaments (21st and 43rd finishes). Nirat is a 20/1 shot and Tunnicliff a 50/1 chance, both with totesport.
Remember, you can now bet each-way on the outright market of any European or PGA Tour golf event and if your selection finishes sixth, on his own, totesport will refund the place part of your stake with a free bet on the following week’s tournaments!
