MEON VALLEY STUD FILLIES’ MILE (GROUP 1) ASCOT SATURDAY
Thursday, September 25th, 2008This has not been a great race for favourites with only three obliging in the past decade. However, it is usually won by a well fancied filly with nine of the last 10 winners coming from the first three in the betting – returning average racing odds of 3.3/1.
The five most successful trainers over the 10 years have been John Gosden with three winners, Aidan O´Brien with two winners, and Clive Brittain, Luca Cumani and Sir Michael Stoute with one win each.
The three we like in Saturday´s renewal are Golden Stream, Fantasia and Rainbow View.
The Stoute trained Golden Stream – owned and bred by the Queen ran an eye-catching race first time out. Sired by Saddlers Wells out of top class mare Phantom Gold she took up the running after 2f and kept finding more to win by 1l in a juvenile time course record at Newmarket (July course). She must have a very bright future.
The Luca Cumani trained Fantasia is also by Saddlers Wells. She has looked impressive in both her starts particularly last time when winning a Group 3 over 7f at Goodwood. The step up to 1m should be ideal and will no doubt attract online betting support.
John Gosden´s Rainbow View looks exceptional. This Dynaformer filly, a very late foul (May 21) made her debut at Newmarket on July 18 and spread-eagled a decent field winning by 6l. She repeated the performance three weeks later again at Newmarket over 7f winning as she liked by 6l. Last time in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes over 1m on soft ground she again won very easily.
She is a very exciting prospect and is the selection.
