Mill Reef Stakes 6f Group 2 Newbury Saturday
Thursday, September 18th, 2008This has been a good race for fancied runners over the past decade. Four favourites have obliged and the winner has come from the first three in the online betting on eight occasions.
The two we like here are the Brian Meehan-trained Gallagher and Marcus Tregoning´s Finjaan
Gallagher a 115k Gns purchase looked a decent type in making his debut at Chepstow on July 2 over 6f Gd-Fm winning by an easy looking 4.5l.
Stepping up in class to Group 2 level he may have been slightly unlucky when beaten a neck by the very useful Prolific at Goodwood on August 1.
He ran his best race last time in the Group 1 Prix Mornay at Deauville. He is most progressive and given an easy surface he should go close here at totesport´s great online betting odds.
Finjaan is a beautifully bred colt by Royal Applause. He showed great tenacity when holding on well to beat a field of very speedy types in the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood.
Back in May Icesolator from the Richard Hannon stable did beat Finjaan in a steadily run affair over 5f at Sandown.
The Tregoning horse took a very strong hold that day and has since progressed. Being out of a mare who stayed 7f well and considering the way he been finishing his races the step up to 6f should suit him well and he is the selection.
