England (1/6 – ODI Series) have called-up Craig Kieswetter for the one-day series against Bangladesh after he has impressed playing for the England Lions.
The Somerset wicketkeeper-batsman only qualified to play for England earlier in the week as he was born in Johannesburg and played under-19 cricket for South Africa before his move to England (1/5 – 1st ODI).
He has performed admirably for the Lions, hitting scored of 40no, 77no and 50 in Twenty20 games against Pakistan A and also getting 81no in a victory over the England first XI.
These displays from Kieswetter have seen him added to the squad for the Bangladesh (7/2 – ODI Series) series and could see the 22-year-old being considered for the opening pair.
Kieswetter said: “I’m delighted to have been called into the one-day squad and I’m excited about the opportunity to tour Bangladesh with the England team,”
England coach Andy Flower has told Sky Sports News that the young wicketkeeper-batsman is set to push Matt Prior for a place in the one-day side.
He said before the squad set off for Bangladesh (10/3 – 1st ODI) that his big hitting is an “added bonus” and the selectors had watched him play for Somerset on a number of occasions.
