No let up from Ponting in Mumbai
Tuesday, November 10th, 2009
Ricky Ponting has urged his injury-ravaged tourists to finish off with a win when they meet India (4/7 favourites on Totesport’s Cricket Coupon) for the last time in the seventh one-day international in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Australia (5/4) hold a winning 4-2 edge going into the final match of the series on a ground which they have won two of their previous three clashes, with the one defeat coming in a similar dead rubber.
Ponting will be unable to call on his best bowler and all-rounder because Mitchell Johnson and Shane Watson will be flying home on Tuesday night to get some rest ahead of the upcoming home season,
The Australian skipper will not let the stand-ins ease off though, and said: “Even though the series is won, it’s not as if we’re going to leave everyone out now and not worry too much about the last game.
“We feel we’ve started something here with this group, not only here but since the one day series in England, we’ve started to get a really good feeling around the group and I don’t want to abandon that or let that go. It’d be nice to finish off on a winning note.”
Ponting is the 5/2 favourite with Totesport to be Top Australia Batsman with opener Shaun Marsh 100/30 and Mike Hussey, who is averaging over 100 for the series, 4/1.
