Barney leaves Parry in rubble
Monday, December 21st, 2009
Raymond van Barneveld (10/1 World Championship – Outright) launched into his mission for a sixth World Championship title with a 3-0 whitewash victory over Warren Parry of New Zealand at Alexandra Palace – then outlined his plan for revenge against Stoke-on-Trent legend Phil Taylor.
The 2007 champion was at his dominant best against the Oceanic Masters champion and will now play Brendan Dolan in the last 32 after Christmas.
The big Dutchman, who hit a nine-dart finish in last year’s competition, took full advantage of an out-of-sorts Parry but admitted he had felt nervous before the match.
“There was a lot of pressure of me for this first game,” said the Dutchman. “Warren didn’t play like he can but I am glad to have won.
“I still don’t feel right coming into this tournament but I really want to win a sixth World Championship.”
Van Barneveld immediately set his sights on another showdown with 14-time winner and arrows A-lister Taylor (1/3 World Championship – Outright), who eased past Colin Monk on Friday night.
“I desperately want to be in the final this year,” he added. “Last year he beat me with 111, an amazing average. I hope to get revenge.”
