There’s a good seven-race card on offer at Newbury on Saturday with the 300 race attracting a number of live Grand National contenders. The advance going is ‘Good to Soft’.
Race 1 (Newbury 155) – A very tough opening handicap hurdler and we have fingers firmly crossed that at least one of our two selections – Benbane Head and Sherwani Wolf – can make the frame.
Race 2 (Newbury 225) – The Sawyer looked to be coming back to his best when a good second at Ascot last time, whilst Cornish Sett has a good record here and comes into the race in good shape too.
Race 3 (Newbury 300) – Ikorodu Road, Chance Du Roy and Swing Bill are our three against the field in a race in which few of the runners are competing at their optimum distance.
Race 4 (Newbury 335) – Pateese won well at Ffos Las and looks an improver so is selected. Also added to the perm is northern raider European Dream, a good second in the Scottish County Hurdle last time out.
Race 5 (Newbury 410) – It might be worth taking a chance on Paul Nicholls’ Rangitoto as a banker. He showed plenty of promise on his hurdles bow last time and the step up in trip looks certain to suit.
Race 6 (Newbury 445) – In a race where few of the nine runners are in the best of form we rely on the generally consistent Lordsbridge and on Cottage Acre, representing the back-to-form Tom George yard.
Suggested Newbury Placepot perm – 2x2x3x2x1x2 = 48 bets
