Experience the key for Kidney
Wednesday, February 24th, 2010
Ireland coach Declan Kidney says he has recalled Geordan Murphy to the Ireland team for the game against England (10/11 to win in the 80 minute betting) because of his knowledge of the Guinness Premiership.
The 31-year-old is one of four changes Kidney has made to his Ireland side (10/1 to be the Six Nations winners) following their 33-10 defeat to France the weekend before last.
Murphy comes in for his first international appearance since the final game of the last Six Nations when Ireland completed the Grand Slam against Wales (2/1 in the 80 minute betting to beat France).
Despite having only made three appearances in the Guinness Premiership for Leicester (11/10 to win the Grand Final) this season Murphy was outstanding for the Tigers in their 33-11 win over Gloucester (66/1) last Saturday and has been given the nod to replace the injured Rob Kearney.
“Geordan’s experience will compensate for his lack of rugby. Twickenham is not a ground he’s unfamiliar with,” said Kidney.
“He’ll be playing against guys who he knows. That was part of the mix in giving him the nod for this one.”
The other changes to the Ireland side sees Leinster fly-half Johnathan Sexton (18/1 first tryscorer) preferred ahead of Ronan O’Gara with the Munster veteran dropping to the bench.
Elsewhere the fit-again Donncha O’Callaghan replaces Leo Cullen while Rory Best takes over from the suspended Jerry Flannery.
